How to thrift

Hello blog readers! I thought a post on how to thrift would be awesome! First things first, you must have an open mind, maybe you like the shape of that vase but not the color. Maybe you like that pillow but it doesn't match your decor, maybe your son is way too small for that shirt you love! Just think that vase can be painted into a color you love! And it will still cost you less than it does it if you were to go to TJ maxx or Target! You can also look at it and say I did that !!! As for a pillow or some curtains that don't match that could just be your inspiration to change the tired living room or bedroom decor! And what if you find an awesome shirt for your child and it ain't quite their size yet? Well just think hey i can put this away and when it's time for him/her to wear it it will be a nice little surprise in their closet!

First example I told ya, for instance "oh look at this cute vase love it but why does it have to be clear glass I wish I could find a vase that is the same color I saw earlier at Pier 1!" Guess what, that is what thrifting is about finding something you love and making it your own!

What if for months you have been wanting to redecorate your living room and had no idea what to do with it. You were clueless of what color to go with. What if you found an antique old mirror or a beautiful pattern on a pillow that you have never seen? It would be the perfect start to your newly renovated space!

As far as clothes at the thrift store, you have to have an open mind. If you love those Ralph Lauren pants and they are too long, take them to get hemmed! Or maybe you found the perfect color blazer but it has a tiny rip on it, add some cool studs! If you love those sandals and they just happen to be Michael Khors and it is dead winter, where else would you find those for that great price? We can not sleep on the awesome steals of a thrift store!

One mans trash is another mans treasure!!

Lastly lets not forget how original shopping at a thrift store makes us, If you buy that old dresser and turn it into a buffet for your dining room, it will be the only one that looks like that and you can say hey I did that!

DIY tye dye shorts!

Hello readers, it's blog Tuesday! Today I am doing a DIY on dyed shorts! There is no wrong color, or way we can do this! All you need are a the following

-bleach jeans/shorts
-scissors/xacto knife
-fabric dye
-garbage bag
-hot water
-washer and dryer
-studs (optional)
(Check out our etsy page for a great deal on clothing studs)

In my case I acccidently left these shorts in bleach, so I figured why not dye them? I have these dye lying around! These bottled ones actually say to put it in the laundry then dye it that way, but that means I can only use one color, I figured it would still work like the regular rit dye.

So first things first you want to have a pair a jeans and cut them into shorts (if you desire) and make sure you bleach them, the dye won't take to the blue denim. For these particular shorts I had no vision I wanted shorts I wanted something fun and different.

I took old dye bottles I had laying around and put the dye and some hot water in it I did about equal parts. But I'm pretty sure whatever dye you will have the directions.

Take your shorts and lay the on the trash bag, this could get messy. I just took the purple and put it on first then the redish pink then back to the purple. Some spots I kind of missed so I took the yellow and just put it on those spots!

I think they look awesome but I wanted to give them more of something so while they were wet I gave them a few more shreds it was easier a that way and I wanted to do it nephew I put it in the laundry to give it that distressed look.

So here are the shorts all done!

I felt like they could use some studs so I added a few! These shorts came out awesome!

And here a couple we made in the past and if you love these shorts and aren't a fan of DIY. Shoot us an email and we can do them for you!

Go to the thrift store and find a cute old lady pin (brooch, however you spell it). Like seriously who wears pins? Why not make it a cute ring like this girl did. It works with ribbon, faux flowers, and pins. I can't find my faux flower one but I do have this pin I found.

A cheap pack of bands at the art store and really tough glue is all you need! Make it happen! Did I get your creative juices flowing? Hope you enjoyed this short blog!

Want to make your own highwaist shorts!?

Do me a favor. Don't spend $35 bucks on these shorts. Spend 35 minutes and have an original pair! I don't know what happen to the before picture I had for these jeans. Buy I bought them at savers which were have off the original price. I got them for $1.50! Say what!?! All you need are some scissors. And tongs!

Before you get started on your jeans. Make sure you go for a pair of jeans that feel thick the more the threads the better the fringe.

Put on your jeans, take a pen mark where you want them, go a little bit lower than where you prefer because the fringe will make them shorter for you. Take your scissors and cut you markings. Cut the back about a half inch longer than the front to make sure your booty is covered. Take your tongs and grab the jeans and it will pull the threads quickly. Cut random slits in you jeans, take your tongs and do the same thing. Don't cut them too high you don't want your thighs hanging out Or maybe you do. If you are like me and didn't cut you jeans that short but want the pockets hanging cut the inside of the pick about the quarters of the way so when you put your shorts on they hang out. I had the express tag in the back of my jeans which i didn't like so if you don't like yours just simply cut the thread that is holding it on to the pants. (which is optional)

Throw them in the washer and dryer, and you have your high-wasted shorts!
If you want to be more daring you can spray them with bleach to give them a more distressed look. You can even soak half in bleach for an ombre effect. You can find some like that in our shop. If you want to go crazy you can add a few studs to your shorts and you can find those in our Motley shop! So remember you can be crafty as you would like!

Here is a link to our studs on our page. Have a beautiful day!

Fabulous outlook

Here at Motley my partner and I love to take things that are beautiful and give them new life. We do it everyday with a pair of jeans but we are more then that. We can find treasures in the middle of madness and our job, our goal is to share them with you. Weather it be you don't have the talent or the time to look for what we find, we bring them to you.

For example take this black and white blazer we found at the thrift store, it is very in and I bet you could find somebody with this on somewhere, but we made it a little different. All we did was add shoulder patches to it and it suddenly becomes a one of a kind piece that you don't see anywhere. Having one of a kind pieces definitely makes you feel special.

Sometimes there are treasures that we do find that we leave untouched and the odds of seeing someone else wear it is probably really crazy. Here is another example, we have found these adorable farmer jeans in the midst of the giant thrift store and let me tell you these are ready to wear. A little twist to your outfit will make everyone wonder wear you got it!

You can tell them you got it in New York like my friend always used to do when she didn't want anyone to copy her or you can tell them the thrift store, not like they will ever find it.
Sometimes you have to go beyond your size, beyond your section when you walk into Savers or Salvation army because you never know what could be if you don't look. I know we talk a lot about thrift stores in this blog, but this is what Motley is we are fabulous finds. We do it for you.
(We do it a little for us)

Anywhoot Motley loves you, have a great day, stay cool!

QOTD: Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

Journey to your dreams

This isn't your usual blog from us. It's more like a blog for hopes! We here at Motley had a slight bump in the road, not really a bump more like a pause. But we definitely recognize it and always look for ways to change it. It is very easy to have a dream and set goals everyone knows that. But to keep them and stay ambitious about the dreams is a different story, that is why most people fail or give up. We are different we felt a little stuck but we know in order to make it, we want to grow and try new things for our small company. Here are somethings that help us get through our tough times.

We always try to put positive thoughts into the universe! We have a vision board that we work on when we feel a little stuck and we brain storm our new ideas and we jot them down in our vision book. Seeing is believing so we feel if we see what we want come true it will! We want to be as big as any household name brand and we will. So if you ever feel stuck or like you want to give up don't write down the things you want to accomplish. Don't sit around waiting for the opportunity to come to you it won't you gotta put in work!

As for you, our advice is to be ambitious, driven and stick to your goals! You can accomplish anything you put your mind to. Don't ever worry about other people's doubts, some people just don't care if you make it because of their own insecurities!

Sorry for the ramble I hope this gave you hope. We love you, SMOOCHES.
